Cremes and Lotions
Decorative & skincare cosmetics and dermocosmetics in semi-solid form
Versions and packaging types
Creams and lotions are popular skincare products. For manufacturers of these cosmetic products, contract manufacturing and filling services offer the added value of outsourcing production and packaging. The actual producer remains invisible to the outside. As a contract manufacturer, Schild Labs carries out production and filling of creams and lotions for our customers. There is a wide and diverse range of these care products available on the market. However, essentially all products of this kind are designed to care for the skin. The basis for this is their composition. In creams, aqueous and oily components are combined to form a spreadable emulsion. They are usually in a semi-solid state, whereas lotions are in a liquid state. The term is derived from the Latin word “lavare”, meaning to wash or bathe. They are preparations that contain a lot of water, little fat and sometimes alcohol.
Many customers use both products on a daily basis. In the case of creams, there is a wide range of versions, each tailored to a particular purpose. These include day cream, night cream, anti-wrinkle cream and skin cream. Products such as eye cream, foot cream and hand cream are designed to care for specific parts of the body. Lotions are available for both skin care and cleansing. Versions include cleansing lotions for the face, but also products for the hands and body, also known as body wash. Popular care products of this kind are body lotions and body milks. Numerous versions exist for different skin types. Extras such as lotions that contain tanning agents or added hyaluronic acid are also available. There is a wide range of packaging for contract filling of creams and lotions: jars, tubes, dispenser bottles and airless dispensers.
Advantages and disadvantages of creams and lotions
There is a wide choice of creams for contract manufacturing and filling. Certain products are tailored to the needs of a particular skin type. Fast-absorbing creams are available, as are oily pastes. These skincare products can be used for a very specific purpose, such as anti-ageing creams or sun milk.
Like creams, so too lotions are helpful products for body care. Body lotions are light solutions that spread well and are quickly absorbed into the skin. Body milk, on the other hand, has a higher fat content, so the skin is moisturised for longer. Users of creams and lotions should be sure to choose suitable products so that they do not over-treat their skin.
Types of packaging used in contract filling for creams and lotions
For contract filling of creams and lotions, different containers are chosen, depending on the intended use. The cream tin with screw lid is widely used. An alternative is the individual cosmetic jar. Plastics such as polypropylene (PP) and PE (polyethylene) are often used for the packaging. They have good barrier properties against oil and moisture, making them ideal for storing solutions and pastes. Cream jars are also made from recycled materials and go well with natural cosmetics products. Plastic tins and jars offer a wide range of design and colour options. Brand-specific designs can also be implemented by printing or labels. Glass cosmetic jars are also suitable for packaging skincare products so as to emphasise the high quality of the contents. These packaging solutions are suitable for moisturiser and anti-wrinkle cream, day cream and night cream. For skincare pastes which have a more liquid consistency and are easy to spread, such as some face creams, pump dispensers are also an interesting alternative. For the user, dosage is simple and hygienic. When it comes to creative colours, form and design, contract manufacturers offer eye-catching solutions. An interesting alternative for cosmetics is the airless dispenser, which protects the product from harmful influences in the ambient air. Dermocosmetic preparations based on medical and cosmetic research meet strict quality requirements and are also used for treating skin conditions. For dermocosmetics in semi-solid form, special tubes and jars are suitable packaging for contract filling. Body lotion, body milk and after-sun lotions are often filled into dispenser bottles. The pump dispenser makes it easy to dispense the correct dose. An alternative type of packaging is a bottle with a hinged lid.
Ingredients, sizes and uses of creams and lotions
IContract manufacturing and filling of creams and lotions opens up many new possibilities for implementing customer’s ideas. Formulations for cosmetic products contain ingredients such as water, liposomes, petrolatum, paraffin, ceresin, fruit acids, vitamins, glycerine and parabens. As an experienced contract manufacturer, we create skincare and dermocosmetics in semi-solid form to our customers’ specifications. For filling containers with creams and lotions, there are numerous size options to choose from. We can offer cream jars from 25 ml to 1000 ml, and contract filling solutions are also available for large-capacity containers. In the case of cream jars made of glass, we recommend sizes between 15 ml and 100 ml for weight reasons. For moisturisers, day creams and night creams, 50 ml containers are typically used.
JDepending on the use of a particular cream, different sizes of container may be appropriate for contract filling. Smaller sizes up to 25 ml are suitable for special-purpose creams such as eye cream and lip balm, or for special editions. For creams intended for use over a larger area, such as body cream, a 500 ml container may be the right choice. For lotions in dispenser bottles and plastic bottles, 400 ml and 500 ml sizes are widely used in contract filling. Body lotion, body milk and after-sun lotion are, naturally, applied in larger quantities. As a contract manufacturer, we can also fill a brand’s skincare cosmetics into smaller dispensers or tubes. This is an attractive solution for gift sets containing multiple products in in 50 ml containers.
